HOPE is a coalition to address social media ads and messages around alcohol, marijuana, nicotine, and other substances. We know that these ads & messages affect our health by shaping our perceptions — our perceptions of the culture of use, of the harms of various substances, and of the options we have available to us to deal with our mental health.
Social media amplifies our exposure to these messages, and HOPE seeks to mobilize communities across the state to speak out about the concrete impacts that these messages have on our health. Our goal is to work with Meta and social media companies to implement stronger age protections around alcohol ads, as well as look at the larger culture of targeted ads for substances.
