In 2018, San Mateo County Health contracted Youth Leadership Institute to create and lead the Healthy Online Platforms for Everyone (HOPE) Coalition to bring together prevention leaders across the state to understand how alcohol and substances messages reach youth’s social media feed.
Since its implementation, HOPE Coalition carries out a quarterly General Coalition meeting for prevention leaders, youth-serving organizations, and youth to mobilize campaign projects.
Model Policy
In partnership with Public Health Institute, HOPE Coalition built a model policy that social media companies could adopt to create community spaces free of alcohol advertisements and promotion that details how online platforms can implement these principles.
